About Kerry Trapnell

I am a documentary photographer who has worked and travelled throughout some of the remotest areas of northern Australia for over 20 years. I have a particular focus on the Cape York Peninsula region, at the far north east of the Australian continent, where I photograph its rich, haunting landscapes and document the lives of the people and culture of the region.

My images have been used extensively to promote Cape York Peninsula’s natural environment, and by Aboriginal groups to support the return of traditional homelands into indigenous land ownership.

I have worked in remote parts of Papua New Guinea for the Worldwide Fund for Nature, and throughout Australia with many organisations supporting environmental protection.

My work has been widely exhibited, and is collected by the Cairns Regional Gallery. I am one of few Australian photographers to have been commissioned by the National Geographic Society to make substantial contributions to their publications, including major projects in both Australia and the United States of America.

Currently I am developing a collection of large format landscape images of tropical northern Australia and working on a book about Australia’s largest tropical river, the Mitchell River.
